WESTMINSTER — Police are asking the public to identify a man they say mugged an 81-year-old man while he was going to the bathroom, leaving the victim, who walks with a cane, lying on the floor in front of the urinal crying for help.

Investigators told 9News the mugging happened inside the men’s room at the AMC Westminster Promenade 24 movie theater, at 10655 Westminster Blvd., on June 20 about 6 p.m.

“This is a 25-year-old physically fit Caucasian male who takes advantage of an 81-year-old man who is trying to use the restroom. That’s unspeakable,” said Trevor Materasso, spokesman with the Westminster Police Department.

The mugger told the elderly man he was sorry before running out of the bathroom. Eight minutes after the mugging, the suspect and his girlfriend were caught on surveillance tape using the victim’s credit card at a Family Dollar store.
