A 62-year-old woman died Friday morning in an accident at a gas station in Centennial.

The Colorado State Patrol received a call at 6:25 a.m. about the incident at a gas-station parking lot near the intersection of East Arapahoe Road and South Peoria Street, said Trooper Heather Cobbler, a Colorado State Patrol spokeswoman.

The victim, who has not been identified, was in the parking lot of the Bradley gas station when she was hit by a late-model Dodge Magnum and pinned under it, Cobbler said.

Customers at the station tried to free the pinned victim, including at least one person who grabbed a car jack in an attempt to lift the Dodge.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene, and the woman was freed and taken to Littleton Adventist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m., Cobbler said.

Witnesses told investigators that the woman had come out of the station’s convenience store and apparently dropped something. Investigators are looking at the possibility that she was bent over when the Dodge hit her.

Investigators are also looking at whether the driver of the Dodge may have been distracted.
