A head-on collision near Platteville left one person dead and two injured just after 6 p.m. today.
Colorado State Patrol still has Colorado Highway 66 at U.S. Highway 85 closed for the investigation but Heather Cobbler, a spokeswoman for the patrol, expects it will reopen it by 10 p.m.
The accident happened when a red Mercury Tracer driving west on Colorado 66 swerved into the eastbound lanes, hitting a black Ford Ranger head-on.
The driver of the Mercury was pronounced dead on scene. A passenger in the Mercury and the driver of the Ford were both flown to the hospital with serious injuries.
A child who was also in the Ranger was treated for some injuries but has been released.
The victims have not been identified.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that the driver of the Mercury may have been using drugs or drinking, Cobbler said.
Colorado State Patrol received a call just before the accident about a driver out of control, but have determined the call was about a different, similar vehicle.
