AURORA — Officials have decided to permanently close the Great Plains Dog Park because of rattlesnakes.

The park, at 20355 E. Jewell Ave., opened in March with a plastic mesh fence above and below ground because of concerns over the snakes.

Two dogs were bitten by a snake in late April, and park officials closed the park to evaluate the situation. But more snakes have been spotted there so the park was shut down for good.
