Investigators are analyzing and documenting 750 gigabytes of data recovered when they executed a search warrant and later arrested a man in Garfield County for possession and distribution of child pornography.
Michael Scott Bilotta, 28, was booked into Garfield County Jail on one felony count of sexual exploitation of children, according to a release from Garfield County’s Sheriff’s Office.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations alerted the sheriff’s office about the local computer internet crime regarding child pornography at the end of September.
During the search Thursday, Garfield County Sheriff’s investigators recovered a laptop, two external hard drives, three cellphones, three cameras, and several other items.
Bilotta was released after posting his $25,000 bond, but is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
The release from the Sheriff’s Office credits the same day arrest after the search to a new computer forensics and internet investigations crime unit in Rifle, saying before the unit, processing may have taken up to six months elsewhere.
