The No. 22 University of Denver women’s soccer team defeated Troy 4-0 on Sunday in Alabama, improving its record to 6-0 in the Sun Belt Conference and 12-2 overall.
Sophomore midfielder Katy Van Lieshout (Boulder), freshman forward Kristen Hamilton (Littleton), freshman midfielder Nicholette DiGiacomo (Golden) and junior midfielder Kari Storslett (Bakersfield, Calif.) scored for the Pioneers.
“We came away from this weekend with two road wins, which is difficult to do in this conference,” coach Jeff Hooker said. “We took care of business and controlled our own destiny in securing our current standing as the No. 1 team in the Sun Belt Conference.”
Denver sits atop the SBC standings as the only undefeated team in conference play. The Pioneers return home to Ciber Field to face Florida Atlantic on Friday and Florida International on Sunday.
Buffs end soccer skid.
The University of Colorado women’s soccer team (6-7-1, 2-3-1 Big 12) snapped a three-game losing streak and a four-game scoreless streak with a 3-1 win over Iowa State (6-7-2, 1-4) at Prentup Field in Boulder.
The Buffaloes will travel to Oklahoma for two conference matches as they take on No. 7 Oklahoma State on Thursday and Oklahoma on Sunday.
Skyhawks win squeaker.
The No. 7 Fort Lewis women’s soccer team (11-1-0, 7-1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) defeated No. 11 Metro State (9-2-1, 7-1-0) 1-0 in an RMAC showdown in Durango.
Fort Lewis’ Nicole Schumacher floated a long shot just underneath the crossbar at 56:00 for the only goal of the game.
Goalkeeper Alee Seehausen had five saves for Metro State. Fort Lewis goalie Christine Schmlezle had four saves in her seventh shutout of the season.
