LONGMONT — Longmont has seen one of the largest increases in the number of foreign-born residents in Colorado during the past decade, according to new census data.
The recently released figures from the American Community Survey shows that Longmont’s foreign-born population increased from 10.6 percent in 2000 to 17.1 percent last year. The Daily Camera reported Sunday that Longmont’s increase in its foreign-born population is the largest in Colorado among cities with more than 65,000 residents.
The data from the American Community Survey, an ongoing study from the U.S. Census Bureau on social and economic conditions, is a snapshot of what 2010 census figures will show later. The survey uses a sampling instead of an actual count and is not considered as accurate as the census.
