Getting your player ready...

AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Senior cornerback Reggie Rembert isn’t coasting through his last football season at Air Force, to say the least.

He’s playing as if he’s just starting his resume instead of adding on.

The Mountain West Conference named Rembert its defensive player of the week Monday after his big game Saturday against Colorado State.

Rembert, 5-feet-8 and 185 pounds, made seven tackles, recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass in Air Force’s 49-27 rout of the Rams at Falcon Stadium. Rembert and safety Jon Davis are tied for the team lead in interceptions with two. Rembert is tied for seventh in tackles with 23.

“I’ve seen at other places where some seniors put it on cruise control through the second half of their last season,” Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said. “The neat thing about Reggie is that he continues to learn and develop. There’s no better leadership trait than that.”

Rembert said he wasn’t going to let his hard work through his earlier season be wasted now.

“I’m taking advantage of what could be my last guaranteed games of football,” he said.

Rembert is the fifth Air Force player this season to receive one of the MWC’s weekly honors.

Davis, quarterback Tim Jefferson, linebacker Jordan Waiwaiole and linebacker Jamil Cooks previously received MWC awards.

Footnote. As the 23rd-ranked Falcons prepare for Saturday night’s MWC game at San Diego State, Calhoun is seeking replacements for strong safety Brian Lindsay (collarbone) and defensive linemen Ryan Gardner (groin) and Ben Kopacka (knee). All were injured during the CSU game.

Calhoun hopes to fill the holes by juggling players on the depth chart.

Ross Fleming, a junior, and senior Bradley Connor will get additional work on the defensive line. The secondary adjustments include a mixture of juniors P.J. Adeji-Paul and Josh Hall and freshmen Chris Miller and Anthony Wooding.

“That’s why you have to develop depth in this game,” Calhoun said.
