FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A woman accused of destroying a controversial artwork in Colorado has pleaded not guilty.
Kathleen Folden, a 56-year-old truck driver from Kalispell, Mont., appeared in court Friday in Fort Collins, where she learned she would stand trial in January. She’s charged with one count of criminal mischief, a felony which carries a penalty of between two and six years.
She was arrested Oct. 6 in a museum after witnesses say she used a crowbar to smash glass shielding the print by California artist Enrique Chagoya.
Critics say the work depicted Jesus engaged in a sex act but Chagoya says it’s not Christ and the work has been misinterpreted.
One of Folden’s lawyers says she’s a woman of faith and looks forward to sharing her views.
