MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota fired football coach Tim Brewster on Sunday, one day after the Golden Gophers lost to Purdue and fell to 1-6 in his fourth season with the Big Ten team.
Brewster went 15-30 at Minnesota, including 6-21 in Big Ten games, and the Gophers’ 28-17 loss to the Boilermakers on Saturday was their sixth straight defeat.
Offensive coordinator Jeff Horton will serve as Minnesota’s interim head coach the remainder of the season.
Athletic director Joel Maturi said he contacted former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy after firing Brewster, a former Denver assistant, and that Dungy told him he’s not interested in returning to the sidelines to coach his alma mater.
