LONDON — The number of people dying from malaria in India may be much higher than the World Health Organization believes, a study says. International experts examined 122,000 deaths from 2001 to 2003 across the country. Based on their findings, experts guessed that 125,000 to 277,000 people die of malaria in India every year. Official WHO numbers are at about 15,000. The study was published online today in the journal Lancet.
