Almost two months after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle home from work, John Smalls is slowly getting better. He’s living with a sister since leaving the hospital, exercising by walking and regaining his memory.

He’s angry, though, that the driver who hit him and left him for dead is still out there.

Colorado Springs police detective Mike Johns said police have a suspect and believe they know of a vehicle that could have been the one that ran into Smalls in the 1800 block of South Circle Drive as he pedaled home from the Denny’s restaurant where he works around 5 a.m. on Aug. 21. The investigation is continuing

Smalls, 50, was found by police just after 6 a.m. and taken to Memorial Hospital, where he spent several days in a medically induced coma because of brain swelling.
