The NCAA Division II top-ranked Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit, falling to No. 10 Regis 2-1 on Sunday in Golden.

Regis found the net first in the 17th minute on a goal by Nduo Chilaka. Ben Buhler’s goal off a corner kick in the 38th minute gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead.

Mines rallied in the second half, outshooting the Rangers 11-5, and cut the deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Tesho Akindele in the 53rd minute.

Mines drew a penalty kick late in the match, giving the Orediggers a chance to tie the game, but Alex Nass’ penalty shot from 25 yards out grazed the crossbar, missing high.

Mines fell to 14-1-1, 11-1-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Regis improved to 12-1-3 (8-3).
