Ralston Valley High School graduate Nick Fazekas was selected by the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League with the first overall pick of the draft.
Fazekas, an All-American at Nevada, was a second- round draft pick (34th overall) of the Dallas Mavericks in the 2007 NBA draft. He played in 26 games with the Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers in 2007-08.
RMAC basketball coaches favor Fort Lewis.
In a poll of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference coaches, the Fort Lewis men’s basketball team was picked to win the league title this season. Fort Lewis guard DeAndre Lansdowne, a 6-foot-2 senior from Albuquerque who averaged 21.7 points and 6.1 rebounds on a 19-9 team last season, was a unanimous pick as RMAC preseason player of the year.
• Adams State, coming off a 21-8 season, was picked by coaches to win the RMAC women’s basketball title.
Vera Jo Bustos, a 5-8 senior guard from Las Vegas, N.M., who has career averages of 15.6 points and 5.7 rebounds at Adams State, was chosen RMAC preseason player of the year.

Colorado Mines retained its No. 16 ranking in the NCAA Division II football coaches poll. The Orediggers (8-1) defeated Adams State 24-17 in Golden on Saturday.
Colorado Mines plays at Chadron (Neb.) State this week and hosts ninth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney in an RMAC showdown Nov. 13. Nebraska-Kearney (8-1) defeated Western New Mexico 56-31 on Saturday.
Nehf boosts UNLV.
Grandview graduate Sara Nehf contributed a career-high 25 kills to the UNLV volleyball team’s 3-2 win over TCU on Sunday. UNLV plays No. 14 Colorado State in Fort Collins on Thursday.
