ASPEN — A 24-year-old woman faces a felony charge of an assault on a police officer after she was arrested early Sunday morning following an alleged altercation at a downtown Aspen bar.

Gulay Akman, 24, was in the Pitkin County jail on a $7,500 bail Sunday afternoon. An Immigrations Customs and Enforcement hold also was placed on her, a jail deputy said.

According to Chip Seamans, a patrol supervisor with the Aspen Police Department, officers reported to The Regal Watering Hole at approximately 1:40 a.m., where a “big melee was gong on.”

Akman, from Turkey, allegedly pulled the hair from the head of one female, threw a glass at another woman’s boyfriend, and broke a glass on another female’s hand.

Akman was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital to be treated for an apparent cut to her head; later she kicked police officer Dave Rosselot several times, Seamans said, leading to the assault on a police officer charge.

All told, Akman had four alleged victims, Seamans said. There were no other arrests from the incident.
