A Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a head-on crash that killed the driver of a Subaru Outback on U.S. 285 near Conifer on Wednesday night.
The deputy was airlifted to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver with serious injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The deputy was trapped in his patrol sport utility vehicle when rescuers arrived following the crash at 8:24 p.m. between Eagle Cliff Road and Turkey Creek Road.
