Cam Newton, Auburn: The junior passed for a career-high 317 yards and four touchdowns and ran for a fifth — all in the first half — in the No. 3 Tigers’ 62-24 rout of Chattanooga. In fact, all of Newton’s scores came in the first 17 minutes.
Kellen Moore, right, Boise State: Threw for a career-best 507 yards (30-of-37) and three TDs while hitting 19 straight passes at one point to help the No. 2 Broncos beat Hawaii 42-7.
Robert Griffin III, Baylor: Just starting to emerge as a viable Heisman candidate, the Baylor quarterback struggled in the loss to Oklahoma State. He finished 30-of-48 passing for 267 yards with one interception and had just 15 yards rushing.
LaMichael James, Oregon: The Ducks’ sophomore running back finished with 121 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 53-16 win over Washington.
