Among area major colleges, the Colorado State women’s basketball program figures to make one of the biggest splashes during the early-signing period by landing 6-foot-2 forward Kara Spotton, who is ranked among the nation’s top-100 prospects by ESPN.

A senior at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Spotton is rated the second-best senior in the state. Eliza Normen of Monarch, bound for Arizona State, is ranked No. 28 nationally by ESPN.

Spotton, ranked No. 98 by ESPN, also was recruited by Iowa State. CSU also has an oral commitment from 6-1 Morgan Hunt of Coffeyville (Texas) Heritage.

The eight-day early-signing period for basketball and some Olympic sports begins today and runs through Nov. 17.

First-year Colorado men’s coach Tad Boyle has received oral commitments from two California guards: 6-4 Spencer Dinwiddie of Woodland Hills Taft and 6-1 Askia Booker of Los Angeles’ Price High School. Boyle is awaiting word from frontcourt prospects.

Linda Lappe, CU’s first-year women’s coach, also has two oral commitments: 5-11 guard Alexis Kresl of Shadow Mountain High in metro Phoenix, and Jasmine Sborov, a 6-1 wing forward at Round Rock (Texas) High.
