COLORADO SPRINGS — The final tally of provisional ballots could change some results of the Nov. 2 general election, El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Bob Balink told The Gazette on Thursday.
A large number of the 5,142 provisional ballots from the election are valid and will be added to the unofficial results, Balink said.
The additional votes could reverse the outcome of two local ballot measures and a state Senate race or trigger an automatic recount, the newspaper reported. Balink expects to release updated numbers Tuesday.
His office has until Nov. 19 to certify all ballots cast in the election and deem the official results.
Incumbent Democrat John Morse currently leads Republican Owen Hill by 252 votes for the District 11 state Senate seat. That margin is not within the automatic-recount rule, but the provisional votes could change that.
Still too close to call are a referendum that seeks to ban medical-marijuana businesses in unincorporated El Paso County and a bond measure in Peyton School District 23 JT.
