DENVER—One of three fishermen stranded in the Gulf of Mexico says he thought about his wife and daughter during the 18-hour ordeal.
The boat Ken Harper of Colorado Springs and his companions were fishing in overturned 20 miles out of Clearwater, Fla. on Friday. Harper told The Denver Post that hanging onto a capsized boat in rough water helps bring what’s important into focus.
He was stranded with Arlen Gastineau of Orlando and Randy Waldorf of Kansas City, Kan.
Harper said their morale was boosted when they saw the lights of aircraft searching for them.
As for sharks, Harper said he thought about them once but then didn’t let his mind go there again.
