A man fell to his death early this morning in Denver after jumping from a slow-moving car and climbing a fence in an apparent attempt to avoid police.
The man was identified this afternoon as Daniel Vincent Aragon, 22, of Englewood.
The incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. on West Colfax Avenue near the Auraria Campus, the Denver Police Department said in a media release.
Police said a vehicle ran a red light and an Auraria Police Department officer in a marked patrol car “activated his lights and siren” to pull it over but the driver didn’t stop.
Instead the vehicle headed west on Colfax Avenue “at a very slow speed,” police said.
Aragon jumped from the car and climbed over a fence on the Colfax Avenue viaduct when he fell, landing in a parking lot below.
Aragon was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Police believe Aragon was wanted on a parole violation.
There were two other people in the vehicle at the time of the incident, police said. They were not identified.
