Three children were in an apartment unit when a fire broke out at a complex in Denver just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Lt. Phil Champagne, spokesman for the Denver Fire Department, said the fire at the two-story apartment complex, 10225 E. Girard Avenue, took about 40 minutes to put out.
No injuries were reported.
The three children were in an apartment with an 18-year-old babysitter at the time. Champagne said they were able to evacuate right away and called 911.
The fire completely gutted the apartment in which the fire started. According to the Red Cross, 16 units suffered enough smoke damage that residents were displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
