The University of Denver signed four hockey players to scholarship offers Wednesday.
Signing with the Pioneers were: Garrett Allen, a 5-foot-11, 161-pound forward from Delafield, Wis., who’s playing for Chicago of the United States Hockey League; Joey LaLeggia, a 5-10, 180-pound defenseman from Burnaby, B.C., who currently leads all British Columbia Hockey League defensemen with 38 points; Zac Larraza, a 6-2, 192-pound forward from Scottsdale, Ariz., who has three goals in 20 games for the U.S. under-18 development team; and Scott Mayfield, a 6-4, 200-pound blueliner from St. Louis who plays for Youngstown of the USHL.
Area soccer players honored.
Two Colorado Mines soccer players and one from Metro State were named to the Daktronics Division II All-America first team. Freshman forward Tesho Akindele (Northglenn H.S.) and junior midfielder Chike Sullivan represent the Orediggers, while Metro’s senior midfielder Steven Emory (Fort Collins H.S.) moves up to the first team after being second-team All-America last season. Regis senior defender Gary Cole (Arapahoe H.S.) was named to the second team.
