When one thinks of , several amazing parts of musical history come to mind: Shakti, MIles Davis, the guitar trio with Al Dimeola and Paco de Lucia and Mahavishnu Orchestra, just to name a few.
Throughout the years, McLaughlin has cemented his reputation as one of jazz’s most virtuosic guitarists. His musical mastery again shone through Saturday night at the , where he and his band, the 4th Dimension, kept the large crowd mesmerized. The quartet, consisting of McLaughlin on guitar, bassist Etienne M’bappe, drummer Mark Mondesir and multi-instrumentalist Gary Husband on keyboards and drums, shredded any notion that jazz is dead, playing with a syncopated ferocity.
It was a night which will hopefully be repeated, but could never be recreated.
