CALGARY, Alberta—Italy’s Armin Zoeggler won the men’s World Cup luge event Saturday at Canada Olympic Park, finishing with a two-run time of 1 minute, 29.651 seconds.
Russia’s Viktor Kneyb was second in 1:29.912, followed by Germany’s Felix Loch in 1.29.962.
Zoeggler, an Italian policeman whose nickname is “Il Cannibale” or “The Cannibal” because he devours the competition, has won three straight events in Calgary and holds the track record of 44.516.
“Today I had two perfect runs,” Zoeggler said.
The 36-year-old star has 51 career World Cup victories.
Zoeggler was the Olympic champion in 2002 and 2006 and finished third in Whistler, British Columbia, in February. He earned the third of his five world titles on the Calgary track in 2001.
“It’s a beautiful track for me,” he said. “I was happy all week during training.”
