Driving home Friday afternoon, an Erie man saw something in the back of the station wagon ahead of him that stuck out as a bit unusual.

“I saw four hooves hog-tied in the back of a car, thrashing around,” said the man, who asked not to use his name out of fear of retaliation. “You don’t normally see that.”

The man called the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office about 2 p.m. to report the strange sight.

A few minutes later, Lafayette police pulled over the red station wagon near U.S. 287 and Diamond Circle. Inside, they found two men — and one large, shaggy sheep bound at the legs and stuffed in the back of the car.
