A man in his mid-70s was hit and pinned beneath the wheels of a car driven by a 77-year-old woman in Lakewood this afternoon.

No names have been released. The man had just mailed a letter next to a Christmas tree display at the King Soopers store at South Kipling Street and West Florida Avenue, said Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis.

When he returned to the parking lot at about 2 p.m., he was struck by the woman, who was making a turn near the entrance of the store, Davis said.

The man was rushed to surgery at St. Anthony Central Hospital in serious condition, he said.

The woman has not been charged. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol, but the driver could face a charge of careless driving causing serious bodily injury, Davis said.
