LONGMONT, Colo.—An airport official in Longmont says an experienced skydiver was critically injured after hitting the ground while practicing swooping maneuvers.

Vance Brand Municipal Airport manager Tim Barth says the 38-year-old Englewood woman was injured Saturday. Her name wasn’t released, but Barth described her as a Denver-area attorney.

In swooping, skydivers glide horizontally above the ground in low-altitude parachute maneuvers before hitting a designated spot.

Barth says the skydiver was making what was planned to be her third and final practice jump Saturday when she apparently failed to complete a turn. He says she was about 200 feet above the ground at the time.

He says the Federal Aviation Administration is investgiating.
