CASTLE ROCK, Colo.—A Castle Rock man accused of shooting his pregnant wife is expected to make his first court appearance after the hearing was delayed because he wasn’t considered mentally stable enough.

The Denver Post reports that a hearing is scheduled Wednesday for 40-year-old Trenton Orendorf. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and assault and is being held in the Douglas County jail.

Police say Orendorf shot his 30-year-old wife Saturday at their home. They say his wife then grabbed her 3-year-old son and drove away.

She is recovering in the hospital. Her unborn child wasn’t injured.

Police say Orendorf barricaded himself in his home for 11 hours. A magistrate has ordered a mental competency evaluation for him.
