Two juveniles were arrested in a home-invasion robbery and 15 others for interfering with police after the alleged robbers barricaded themselves in a home early Saturday morning, police say.
The names of the two robbery suspects were not released because the suspects are juveniles, said Lt. Matt Murray, Denver police spokesman.
Police received a call about a home-invasion robbery at 3:51 a.m. at a three-story apartment building at 1555 Grove St., Murray said.
Shots were heard inside one of the apartments but no one was injured, he said.
Before police arrived, two suspects ran off and were seen entering a duplex at 3123 W. Conejos Place, which is near the apartment building, he said.
The two juveniles barricaded themselves inside the home, which had Christmas decorations on the door, and again shots were fired.
“It was a standoff with police,” Murray said. “It was pretty intense.”
SWAT team members and K-9 dogs were called in and set up around the house. A hostage team was called in to negotiate with the suspects.
Numerous people at the scene allegedly impeded the police operation and were arrested periodically through the morning, Murray said.
“It took all night,” he said.
The house was not completely cleared until just before 9 a.m., Murray said.
It is not known yet what, if anything, was stolen from the first home and whether the suspects knew the victims.
Several apartment neighbors said they did not hear anything the night before when dozens of police officers were in the neighborhood.
