GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A 15-year-old singer and songwriter from Grand Junction will perform at the party celebrating the inauguration of John Hickenlooper next week.

The Grand Junction Sentinel reports that Destinee Reed earned the honor by beating out students from across the state in a talent competition. The Central High School student performed a song that she composed entitled “My Colorado”. In it, she sings about things like wild mustangs, Palisade peaches and ski slopes.

Hickenlooper will be sworn in Jan. 11 and is throwing a laid-back party rather than fancy ball later in the day.

The inaugural organizing committee is allowing Reed to bring 30 classmates with her and putting them in a Denver area hotel. She’s taking fellow choir members.
