A Northglenn police officer was shot and wounded Monday evening as police tried to arrest a registered sex offender, Police Chief Russell Van Houten told 9News. Police were in a standoff with the man late into the night.

Van Houten said the officer was shot in the right arm and was in good condition at Denver Health Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police went to a home near Bowman Place and Irma Drive about 6:30 p.m. to arrest Matthew Anderson, 40. A months-long undercover investigation linked him to an attempt to lure a 13-year-old girl into a sexual activity.

Anderson would not answer requests to come out, so five officers breached the door. That, Van Houten said, is when Anderson opened fire, getting off at least two shots.

Anderson has an extensive criminal history, according to public records.

He was released on $5,000 bond last week after being arrested on felony charges of Internet sexual exploitation of a child and Internet luring of a child.

He was the subject of a hearing related to child custody in Adams County in November, according to court records. He was instructed to pay nearly $5,400.

Anderson pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in a domestic violence case in Adams County in April.

In 2009, Anderson agreed to plead guilty to a charge of attempted sexual assault on a child in Jefferson County.
