DENVER—Downtown Denver workers looking for a nearby food truck to get their fix of fancy cupcakes or pulled pork sandwiches won’t have that luxury for now.

Denver Public Works spokeswoman Daelene Mix says the city prohibits trucks from selling food from metered parking spaces. The rule effectively shuts out an industry that’s catching on in other cities and has inspired a show on Food Network.

Denon Moore and her husband, Sean, told Denver’s KUSA-TV that they discovered the ordinance last month after a city inspector told them they weren’t allowed to park their Denver Cupcake Truck downtown.

Mix says mobile food trucks can apply for a license for a fixed, off-street location but acknowledges more needs to be done. A city advisory group will study the issue.
