Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis is not returning to his job at the Denver office of Hogan Lovells.

“Scott McInnis has retired to Grand Junction to be more involved in his family businesses,” said Cole Finegan, the firm’s managing partner. “Here at Hogan, we wish him and his family the best in his new adventure.”

McInnis, who could not be reached Thursday, was on a one-year leave of absence while he ran for governor. News of his retirement was first reported by Law Week Colorado.

McInnis, a former congressman, was a front-runner in the gubernatorial race, but his candidacy imploded when it was reported that he submitted plagiarized work from a now- Colorado Supreme Court justice as part of a $300,000 fellowship.

McInnis has expressed interest in serving as an interim director of Club 20, a Western Slope advocacy group, the Associated Press reported Thursday. Reeves Brown, the current director, is joining Gov.-elect John Hickenlooper’s administration as head of the state’s local affairs department.
