Lakewood police were in a standoff with a suspect late Friday night after exchanging gunfire near West 13th Place and Kline Street.
Lakewood Police spokeswoman Andrea Joo said police were called to a domestic disturbance at about 10 p.m. When they arrived a man, apparently armed with a rifle, fired at them from a house. No officers were injured.
A reverse emergency call was issued, warning residents to stay in their homes for their safety, Joo said.
SWAT units were deployed and police were attempting to begin negotiations. Police said that a woman in the house had escaped, but would not confirm reports that children might still be inside.
