Hannah Tuomi, a senior forward from Horizon High School, contributed 22 points to Vanderbilt’s 67-59 victory over Auburn in a Southeastern Conference women’s basketball game Sunday in Nashville, Tenn.
Tuomi, a former Class 5A Ms. Basketball in Colorado, hit 8-of-14 shots and grabbed five rebounds against the Tigers (9-7, 2-1 SEC). The Commodores (11-5, 2-1) had a 24-7 run in the second half.
Tuomi entered the weekend leading the SEC in field-goal percentage (.628) and free-throw percentage (.767). She ranked sixth in the SEC in scoring average (13.9) and 10th in rebounding (6.6). As a junior, she averaged 10 points and 5.6 rebounds.
CU skiers on Team USA roster.
University of Colorado junior Reid Pletcher, a nordic skier from Sun Valley, Idaho, was selected for the Team USA squad that will compete Jan. 27-31 at the World U-23 Ski Championships in Otepaa, Estonia.
At the nordic national championships last week in Rumford, Maine, Pletcher finished 12th in the 1.6K freestyle sprint race, 13th in the 1.6K classic sprint race and 33rd in the 15K classic race. CU sophomore Joanne Reid, a nordic skier from Palo Alto, Calif., also will compete for Team USA at the world championships.
Heritage product honored.
Abby Loar, a Heritage High School graduate and a junior forward on the Trinity University women’s soccer team in San Antonio, was named an All-American by .
Loar was the Division III Tigers’ leading scorer in their 18-2 season with 16 goals and 11 assists.
