LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Lakewood police say a SWAT team rescued three children from a home after their father traded gunfire with authorities and barricaded himself at his house for five hours.
The Denver Post reports that officers shot the man during the brief gunfight and that’s when the suspect went into his home Friday night and the standoff ensued. Lakewood police spokeswoman Andrea Joo says officers responded to the man’s home on a domestic violence call and the man came out of the house with a rifle.
Police did not identify the man. The Denver Post says he is recovering at a hospital.
Joo says SWAT officers sneaked into the man’s home at 3:40 a.m. Saturday and rescued the man’s three children before arresting him. The children were not hurt.
