PHOENIX—Search crews are looking for a small plane that left an Arizona airport and is reported missing in Colorado.

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration says the single-engine Piper Malibu was flying from Deer Valley Airport north of Phoenix to Pueblo Memorial Airport.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says air traffic controllers lost radio and radar contact with the plane around 2:45 p.m. Sunday after it sent a distress signal.

At the time, Gregor says the plane was about 8 miles south-southwest of Silver West Airport, which is in Westcliffe, Colo., about 50 miles west of the Pueblo airport.

Gregor says he didn’t have any immediate information on how many people were aboard the plane.
