DENVER—A Colorado man is accused of threatening to set fire around Sen. Michael Bennet’s office and shoot staffers.
John Troy Davis faces a charge of assault on a federal employee and is scheduled to be in court in Denver Monday afternoon.
According to an arrest affidavit, Davis called Bennet’s office on Thursday to complain about his Social Security benefits. At one point, Davis allegedly told a Bennet staffer that he is schizophrenic and that he “may go to terrorism.”
The alleged threat happened two days before six people were fatally shot at a grocery store in Tucson where U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was meeting with constituents.
There is no indication of any connection between Davis’ threat and the shootings.
