The Citizens Appreciate Police board will honor four Denver police officers at a ceremony today.

The four will be recognized for going “above and beyond the call of duty to help their fellow men,” according to a release from the department.

The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at the Denver Police Administration Building, 1331 Cherokee St., in the chief’s conference room.

Sgt. Gary Ayers is being recognized for assisting an elderly couple with a flat tire on their RV on Interstate 70 while off duty.

Technician Henry Jones, who is assigned to Denver International Airport, is being recognized for assisting families of injured officers from across the country who are rehabilitating at Craig Hospital. He has provided food and transportation for these families out of his own pocket as they travel through DIA.

The citizens board also will honor Detectives Danny Veith and Ed David. Veith donated one of his kidneys to David.
