The Citizens Appreciate Police Board will honor four Denver Police Officers at a ceremony tomorrow.

The four officers will be recognized for going “above and beyond the call of duty to help their fellow men,” according to a release from the department.

The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesdayat the Denver Police Administration Building, 1331 Cherokee St., in the Chief’s Conference room.

Sgt. Gary Ayers is being recognized for assisting an elderly couple with a flat tire on their RV while they were traveling on Interstate 70.

Ayers was off-duty spending time with his daughter when he saw the couple having trouble, and changed the tire for them. The couple attempted to pay Ayers but he refused any compensation.

Technician Henry Jones, who is assigned to DIA, is being recognized for assisting families of injured officers from around the country who are staying at Craig Hospital by providing food and transportation for these families out of his own pocket as they travel through DIA.

The citizens board will also honor Detective Danny Veith and Detective Ed David after Veith donated one of his kidneys to David.
