PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired right-hander Armando Galarraga in a trade with the Detroit Tigers for minor-league pitchers Kevin Eichorn and Ryan Robowski on Monday.

Galarraga, 29, had an average 2010 season (4-9, 4.49 ERA) but gained fame by missing a perfect game when umpire Jim Joyce acknowledged blowing a call with two outs in the ninth inning against the Cleveland Indians.

The Diamondbacks also signed right-hander Micah Owings to a minor-league contract.

Comes with the turf for Rodgers

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who took several shots during Sunday’s NFC championship game victory over the Chicago Bears, has a sore shoulder, but coach Mike McCarthy said he’s not overly concerned heading into the franchise’s fifth Super Bowl appearance Feb. 6.

• Pittsburgh Steelers rookie center Maurkice Pouncey was on crutches and had his left ankle wrapped after Sunday’s victory over the New York Jets but said he would play in the Super Bowl.

• Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said the team will work to sign Lovie Smith to an extension, ensuring he will not be a lame-duck coach in the last year of his contract.

• Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown said quarterback Carson Palmer asked for a trade a little more than a week ago but was denied because he’s central to the team’s plans.

Mavericks acquire Stojakovic

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks signed swingman Peja Stojakovic off waivers from the Toronto Raptors. Stojakovic has averaged 17.2 points per game over his career but has played only eight games this season because of knee injuries.

The Mavericks also traded backup center Alexis Ajinca to Toronto for the rights to Georgios Printezis, who is playing in Spain.

• Boston Celtics center Shaquille O’Neal sat out practice and remains day to day with a sore right hip.

• College Football Hall of Famer and former Auburn star Ed Dyas died Sunday after a long battle with cancer. Dyas, a former fullback, linebacker and kicker who was fourth in the 1960 Heisman Trophy balloting, was 71.

• Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins was arrested on a marijuana possession charge Saturday, his second arrest in the past 20 months, and faces almost certain punishment from the team.

• Former Southern California running back Stafon Johnson sued the university and an assistant conditioning coach for negligence in the weight-room accident that crushed his throat in 2009. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

• West Virginia senior guard Casey Mitchell, who leads the basketball team in scoring at 16.6 points a game, was suspended indefinitely for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

• Former world champion hurdler Stephane Diagana has left intensive care after a bicycle accident left the Frenchman with serious head injuries.
