An argument inside a home in the 900 block of Sheridan Boulevard Tuesday night escalated to gunfire and a woman was killed, Denver police said.

Detective John White of the Denver Police Department said two groups of people were involved, but he could not speculate on the cause of the disturbance or how many shots were fire in the incident at about 8:20 p.m.

“We don’t think it’s a home invasion, but we’re not ruling anything out at this point.” he said at about 9:30 p.m. as numerous officers searched the alleys and talked to neighbors.

Those involved in the fight are still are at large.

The woman’s name nor age have been released, nor has any information about suspects.

White said police were called by people reporting numerous shots fired inside the home, but he did not yet know if it was a shootout or more than one shooter.

“That’s still under investigation at this point.” he said. “It’s too early to say.”

The home is across the street from the El Torito Bar & Grill, where bartender Jose Beltran-Galindo was shot and killed on Jan. 4. Lakewood police have issued a warrant for Eric Hernandez Montiel, 37, in that killing.

Anyone with information about either case should call local police.
