GOLDEN, Colo.—Colorado medical marijuana business owners and advocates say proposed statewide rules threaten the privacy of patients.

They were among the speakers Thursday in the first of two days of public debate on rules being considered by the Colorado Department of Revenue. After the hearings, the agency will finalize regulations for the industry and the thousands of businesses that have started in the last couple years .

The Denver Post reports that advocates are concerned about rules requiring that transactions at dispensaries be videotaped and personal information recorded. The requirements are among 99 pages of rules about how medical marijuana is grown and commercially sold.

The rules would also govern how to produce and sell edible marijuana products, along with the nation’s first regulations on the safe production of hashish.
