Douglas Adams has been named executive director of the Breckenridge-based National Repertory Orchestra.

He had been president of the Colorado Symphony for six years before resigning in 2008 to accept a similar position with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He resigned from the Dallas post in September, citing strains brought on by commuting from Colorado, where his wife, Pamela, had remained.

The 50-year-old NRO is made up of promising young musicians who are chosen via auditions conducted throughout the U.S. They participate in an intensive summer program filled with instruction and performances. The 2011 season opens on June 18.
