About 500 people attended a funeral Sunday for a Denver Public Schools principal who died on Thursday.

Family members say Heather Regan, principal at Bradley International Elementary School, likely died from complications of a stroke.

Regan was walking her two dogs at the Chatfield State Park’s dog park on Jan. 30 when she collapsed. She was hospitalized, but did not recover.

Regan had been in education for at least 16 years and graduated from Ohio State University.

DPS spokesman Michael Vaughn said Bradley joined the district in September 2000. She became Bradley’s principal in July 2007.

She enjoyed hiking, skiing, reading and playing with her two dogs, Gracie and Kalila. She was married to Brian Regan. The couple, who lived in Littleton, did not have children.

Services were at Horan and McConaty in Centennial. Teachers, students, family, friends and others attended the services.
