The husband of a Superior mother accused of smothering their 6-month-old son to death in June is suing her for wrongful death, claiming in the lawsuit that her actions were “intentional” and have caused him “loss of companionship.”

In the wrongful death lawsuit, which 29-year-old Lloyd Rochester filed in Boulder County District Court last week, he says that Stephanie Rochester, 34, placed blankets over their son Rylan’s head, causing him to suffocate.

Stephanie Rochester “was under the erroneous belief that Rylan had autism,” according to the lawsuit. She “believed that Rylan’s condition would emotionally and financially ruin her life.”

Stephanie Rochester was arrested June 1 on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death after she told investigators that she placed a plastic bag over Rylan’s head the evening of May 31 and later put blankets over his face, causing him to stop breathing, according to an arrest affidavit.
