Currently, students in the Aurora Public School District need 22 credit hours to graduate from high school. Before Tuesday night, 1.5 of those had to be in physical education. That requirement is now gone.

The Aurora School Board voted 5-2 to change the elective requirements; no longer requiring those physical education credits.

District leaders wanted the 1.5 hours freed up for students to take more academics if they want.

APS Chief Academic Officer William Stuart says too many students are headed to college campuses unprepared.
