Big changes are planned for Boulder’s popular and historic Chautauqua Park, and to help pay for them, the Colorado Chautauqua Association is considering offering naming rights to parts of the 40-acre site.

Phil Shull, vice president of the Colorado Chautauqua Association’s Board of Directors, told the City Council at a study session Tuesday night that the group’s 2020 plan for additional parking and improved facilities could top $10 million.

He said the association is not asking the city for money, however, to pay for what he called “an ambitious undertaking.”

“We think there’s a broad array of finance mechanisms,” he said. “We’ll certainly undertake a capital campaign.”

That campaign, he said, could include seeking grants or offering naming rights for certain Chautauqua facilities.
