A Libyan tourist wanted in Glendale on suspicion of rape was returned the U.S. over the weekend after U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorities learned he was a wanted man.

Ali Ahmed Abooedella, 35, is on his way back to Colorado to face the charge.

On Saturday, Abooedella left the U.S. on a flight to London with a final intended destination of Libya.

Mid-flight, Customs authorities learned Abooedella had a warrant issued for his arrest and alerted London authorities who denied him entry into their country.

On Sunday, Abooedella flew back to the U.S. and was arrested at Chicago’s O’Hare airport.

Abooedella was visiting Colorado on a tourist visa when the rape allegations occurred.
